One of our favorite things about Midtown is the push for more sustainable living through the re-use of building materials from buildings being torn down. We decided to try to make some reclaimed furniture for our two good friends - and this is what ensued...

Pat: the master welder

Welding the legs to the table frame was no easy task - mainly because we had to manually place the legs at as close of an 90 deg angle as we could since the iron spindles had non-uniform width (thus, clamps were out of the question). 

The leg came out crooked on one of the welds, so in my infinite wisdom, I tried to bend the table legs with  my bare fingers. Go me.

Still don't have fingerprints on those fingers. Will make sure to commit crimes with my left hand from now on.

For the tabletop, we (aka: Pat) cut and planed a bunch of old floorboards - then clamped them together with wood glue.

In retrospect, should have gone with a more walnut color for the staining.

Because all good furniture should have a name (per our favorite furniture store, IKEA), we christened this the SMEND table - which stands for Salvaged Materials END Table

and it lived crookedly ever after in Ale and Drew's awesome house.
